Comparison
Bank app or a licensed independent app: the difference and when to add one
In short
A bank app shows the accounts your bank manages and lets you act on them. A licensed independent app such as Shavve shows several institutions in one place, read-only and with your consent. You do not have to choose: keep the bank app for actions and add an overall picture.

The comparison in a table
| Bank app | Shavve (a licensed independent app) | |
|---|---|---|
| What it shows | The accounts and products your bank manages. What it shows from other institutions, if anything: check with the bank | Banks, credit cards, pensions and provident funds, insurance (including Har HaBituach), investments and crypto |
| Actions | Per the bank's app, usually including actions on the account | Read-only: Shavve cannot move money |
| How data gets in | It is already at the bank | In open banking you identify yourself to the bank and approve read-only sharing, with the option to cancel |
| Pensions and insurance | Not published here. Check with the bank | Pensions and provident funds, and insurance including Har HaBituach |
| Supervision | Banks are supervised by the Bank of Israel | A financial-information-service licence, supervised by the Israeli Securities Authority |
| Price | Not published here. Check with the bank | A 30-day free trial for connecting banks and credit cards, including budgets and a shared household. Prices are shown in the app before any purchase |
| Platforms | Per the bank | iOS and Android apps |
Shavve operates one of the apps compared. The comparison rests on what the sites publish, not on an independent test of how they work.
When to choose them
- You need to act on an account: transfers, payments, standing orders. That happens in the bank's app.
- You have an account at one bank only and just need to look at it.
- You prefer not to share information with another party.
- Your bank shows everything you need in one picture.
When to choose Shavve
- You have accounts at several banks or several credit cards and want one picture.
- You also want to see pensions, insurance and investments read-only.
- You want a budget, net worth and a fee comparison in one place.
- You want access to be read-only and cancellable at any time.
Frequently asked questions
Does an independent app replace my bank app?
No. An app such as Shavve shows data read-only and cannot move money, so you keep doing actions in the bank's app.
Do I have to give an independent app my bank password?
In open banking you identify yourself to the bank itself and approve sharing. An app that asks for a bank password should raise a red flag. See "Open banking, simply" for details.
How do I know an app is licensed?
Check the official list of financial-information providers on the Israel Securities Authority's site, not only the app's own site. See the guide to licensed apps for details.
Can I cancel the sharing?
Yes. In open banking the consent can be cancelled, at the app and at the bank. It is worth checking this before you connect.
